You’ve most certainly heard of the free life insurance coverage for Veterans with a 100% Disability Rating. Here’s the bad news right way: this is a thing of the past and no longer available.
Unfortunately, the program (called S-DVI) was discontinued by the VA as of December 31, 2022 due to the opening of their new program – Veterans’ Life Insurance (VALife) – that has been in effect since January 1, 2023.
This new VALife program is NOT a 1:1 replacement of the old program. It will come with a premium AND offers very little actual benefits. You can read more here in our VALife article on why this is such a bad program and what we would recommend instead.
