Veterans Tax Exemption
Nevada resident veterans with wartime service are entitled to an annual tax exemption. This exemption can be utilized for either your vehicle privilege tax or real property tax. Additionally, veterans have the option to contribute their exempted tax directly to the Nevada Veterans’ Home Account.
Disabled Veteran Tax Exemption
Nevada extends a property tax exemption to honorably discharged resident veterans with a service-connected disability of 60% or higher. Eligibility may also extend to surviving spouses. This exemption can be utilized for a veteran’s vehicle tax or personal property tax. Sales Tax Holiday
Members of the Nevada National Guard and their immediate families qualify for a three-day sales tax exemption during the Nevada Day holiday.
Nevada Veteran Employment Preference
Veterans and surviving spouses of members killed in the line of duty receive a ten-point boost to their passing grade on state employment exams. National Guard members and other surviving spouses receive a five-point advantage.
Additionally, qualified disabled veterans are ensured an interview opportunity, while non-disabled veterans must comprise at least 22% of candidates interviewed for any vacant state position.
It’s essential for veterans to have received an other-than-dishonorable discharge to be eligible for these benefits.
Nevada Veteran Education Benefits
Fee Waiver for National Guard Members and Family
The University of Nevada system has the authority to provide a waiver of tuition and laboratory fees for active members of the Nevada National Guard. Furthermore, members have the option to transfer this eligibility for the waiver to their immediate family members.
Waiver of Fees for Children and Surviving Spouses of Nevada National Guard
The University of Nevada system has the authority to provide a waiver of tuition and laboratory fees for any child or surviving spouse of a Nevada National Guard member who was killed in the line of duty.
For children, the waiver remains valid for 10 years following their attainment of the age of 18 years. Surviving spouses can utilize the waiver for 10 years after the member’s date of death.
Tuition Waiver for Purple Heart Recipients
Veterans who have received the Purple Heart are entitled to tuition-free education at any state school, regardless of residency status.
Grant-In-Aid for the Family of a Member Killed in the Line-of-Duty
Dependents of an active duty member who was killed in the line of duty while permanently stationed in Nevada may qualify for a non-repayable financial grant.

Active Duty Hunting & Fishing License
Nevada has two veterans cemeteries, in Fernley and Boulder City. There is no charge for the plot, vault and opening & closing of a gravesite for a veteran. A small fee is charged for the burial of the spouse or dependent of a veteran.
State Park Admission
Nevada veterans honorably discharged with a permanent disability of 10% or more are eligible for a pass granting free entrance to all state parks, camping, and boat launch facilities. A nominal annual renewal fee applies.
